"Advances in Geriatric Rehabilitation 2004" to be focus of 11th annual rehabilitation conference.

The Southern New England Rehabilitation Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Providence will hold its eleventh annual rehabilitation conference on "Advances in Geriatric Rehabilitation" Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

This intermediate level conference for professionals will provide a forum for discussing the complex therapeutic issues associated with geriatric rehabilitation. A variety of aspects will be discussed including cognitive rehabilitation, fall prevention, bowel & bladder rehabilitation, medical issues with the elderly, as well as public policy and advocacy.

Dr. Richard Besdine, Interim Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences at Brown University; Ann Marie Connolly-Belanger, MS, CHFI, Research Associate Exercise Science Program - Physical Education at the University of Rhode Island; and Colleen Karow, PhD., Associate Professor, Communication Disorders at the University of Rhode are among the scheduled speakers. Others presenting are Joyce Hall, MA, Chief of Protective Services, RI Department of Elderly Affairs; Robert Cole, CRRN, Southern New England Rehabilitation Center; Trish Welsh, OTR/L and Lori Colasanto, OTR/L, Southern New England Rehabilitation Center and Susan Day, MS, Visting Lecturer, Providence College. In addition, Dr. Stanley Aronson, Professor Emeritus, Community Health at Brown University will deliver the luncheon address.

Five Contact hours will be awarded to Physical Therapists. Continuing Education Credits/Contact Hours are pending from the RI State Nurses Association, the American Occupational Therapy Association and the continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
