SNERC hosts author at support group meeting
Southern New England Rehabilitation Center had a special guest at its April 11 Stroke Support Group meeting: Dr. Thomas G. Broussard, Jr., who is conducting a national campaign dedicated to educating Americans about stroke and aphasia, an impairment of language that is often the result of a stroke. Many know something about stroke but few know much about aphasia, which impacts almost 40% of stroke victims. Dr. Broussard, formerly an associate dean at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, could not read, write or speak well due to his stroke. After recovering, Dr. Broussard wrote “Stroke Diary, A Primer for Aphasia Therapy”. His presentation was well-received and was attended by stroke survivors, family members, and SNERC staff.
